Meh, 'tis why I decided to tell him "alright, it's a clockwork blade thresher of doom made out of nothing but adamantine...or maybe darkwood because of its steel-like properties, and thus I can make it with minor creation too"

Oh, now this is too funny.
Monte Cook Joins the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game™ Team
Co-creator of 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons® to act as Rules Consultant

Paizo Publishing®, LLC today announced that Monte Cook, the co-creator of 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons and author of the 3.5 PHB and DMG as well as the Ptolus™ campaign setting and the recent Book of Experimental Might™, has joined the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game team as a Rules Consultant.

"This is going to be a lot of fun," said Monte Cook. "Pathfinder is a fresh spin on a rules system that I love and the guys at Paizo are great to work with. They produce nothing but the highest quality products."

"Monte Cook is a legend of third edition and of the Open Gaming movement," said Paizo's Publisher, Erik Mona. "He's also a great DM, and has the best mind for mechanics I've ever seen. To have one of the original third edition designers helping us with the Pathfinder RPG is like a dream come true. With Monte's involvement, I am certain that the future of the edition he helped to create will be very long and very fruitful."

"I am really excited to be working with Monte on this project," said Paizo's Lead Designer, Jason Bulmahn. "His advice has been a great help to the Pathfinder RPG. When it comes to rules design and knowledge of the 3.5 system, there is absolutely no one better."

Monte Cook will also be contributing an introduction to the final Pathfinder Roleplaying Game hardcover, scheduled for an August 2009 release.
Out of semi-retirement again to work on another steaming turd. Good gods. Maybe they can dig out Sean K Reynolds to make Wizards even *more* fucked up, just like Monte's WoD!

It's one of Murphy's Laws: It will get worse.

This is actually reminding me of something I did many moons ago, where I sketched out how a Pokemon version from Hell would go (You start with Pikachu, whose only move is Leer). It was fun to do because several times I had to go, "How can I continue to make this worse?" and then find a creative way to continue the downward spiral that would hypothetically continue to ream the victim, i.e., you.

My final hopes for Paizo just died.

So, anyone up for working on the New Edition?

I'm just amused by the silly bastard at this point.
He puts out Ptolus, says he's semi-retiring from RPGs to write a novel
But! He vomits out the craptacular d20 WoD. Says he's retiring again.
But! He cobbles together a bunch of house rules and shoves them in a book (anybody read these btw?) and... retiring. Sure. Whatever
But! Experimental Might II! and, no really, go the fuck away, Monte.
And now...
this.

I suspect the novel writing isn't going well.

Hear, hear. I was disappointed that progress stalled on that.

I just read Monte's blog, and his role is 'consultant'. Which means that Jason will ask for an opinion here and there. It's sounding like they have a forumite with special treatment and are using the fact he's a big name in the industry.

Or perhaps 'consultant' is code for 'ghost writer'

I suspect the novel writing isn't going well.
Sean Reynolds made mention of a 'vampire project' over 3 years ago on his forum when I asked him if there were better alternatives to the 3.x vampires.
I made a few suggestions for feats that work like WoD 'dot' abilities.
He joked that I was snooping the notes on his workdesk somehow.
So, no, it wasn't quite 'vomited out', at least on SKR's side. For Monte, though, it might have been a last-minute rush for content like a college essay written during finals week.

Actually Seanie boy came up with the absolutely and utterly broken system for mages. The one where they've completely won the game by level 4. Vomiting it out is exactly the right term.

The fact that it was garbage doesn't mean that SKR didn't spend an incredibly long time on it. If you work with game writers in any capacity you will know this to be true.

Absolutely. I spent 2 years off-and-on with a d20 classless project that led to no-where, due to the inherent imbalances within 3.x that I didn't fully notice until it was picked apart.
It was, however, my introduction to an interest in actual RPG development, so perhaps it wasn't such a waste of time?
It was a learning process, getting rid of old AD&D notions and expectations.

Maybe SKR and Monte will do better after this first WoD d20. I hope.
